PHILANTHROPY

Alpha Chi Omega's original national philanthropy project  was Easter Seals

Today, Alpha Chi Omega's national philanthropy is the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation, which supports Victims of Domestic Violence. Alpha Chi Omega voted to change primary philanthropies during the 1980's after the National Board became aware of the prevalence of domestice violance   They released that there was very little remedy offered to victims, both financially and emotionally. Alpha Chi Omega was the first American women's fraternity to tackle the problems of domestic violence head-on, not just by assisting victims, but by embracing and educating its members against it. Alpha Chi Omega continues its support of Easter Seals

At the local level, the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Delta Kappa Chapter has chosen the Walker County SAAFE House as their Philanthropy project.   The SAAFE House was incorporated in 1984 to provide help, shelter and support victims of family violence.   In 1989 the SAAFE House started offering services for sexual assault survivors.   SAAFE House is an acronym for Sexual Assault and Abuse Free Environment.   They have facilities in Walker and Polk Counties and all surrounding areas.

Their goal is to help victims of family violence and sexual assault obtain the necessary skills to live abuse free. SAAFE House offers a safe, supportive environment to victims and their children, provides support services to the abusive family members, and helps families find non-violent ways of coping with stresses that might lead to abuse.

To support this wonderful charity, Alpha Chi Omega holds their annual Hugs and Pampers drive to raise funds and supplies for the SAAFE House
